Being part of it - for a third year
With the half way mark approaching for the city’s five-year infrastructure rebuild, SCIRT’s construction partners are for a third year sponsoring Christchurch’s World Buskers Festival.
Just like the festival, the SCIRT work programme for 2014 will be full-on. Teams from City Care, Downer, Fletcher, Fulton Hogan and McConnell Dowell are working on more than 90 projects currently. This is expanding to 150 in 2014, with close to a third of these in the central city.
All of which means that the people working for SCIRT, as well as everyone in Christchurch daily negotiating road works, are in need of a laugh. The Buskers Festival gives us a chance to recharge as we work through the city’s rebuild. We are all part of it if we live here.
In three years, SCIRT’s job will be completed and many of Christchurch’s core services will be repaired or replaced, better than before.
- Already close to a third of the city’s 600km or more broken wastewater pipes have been relined or replaced.
- Major bridge repairs across the Avon and Heathcote are well advanced or close to completion.
- Large, publicly-owned retaining wall and reservoir rebuilds are on their way or completed.
None of this could have happened without the goodwill of Christchurch residents, business owners and road users. There’s more to come.
The festival sponsorship is a much needed reminder that people are at the heart of this rebuild and that we need to keep enjoying our city as the work continues.
The World Buskers Festival is a live link to the city as it was and as it will be. See you there!
”THE WORLD BUSKERS FESTIVAL IS A WAY FOR SCIRT‘S FIVE LEAD CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES TO REMIND US ALL HOW MUCH WE HAVE IN COMMON AND HOW MUCH THE CITY‘S REBUILD IS SOMETHING WE ARE ALL PART OF.
